Think of accessories as being the icing on the cake. The cake flavor is your face shape. There are just some kinds of icing that don’t go well on certain flavors of cake. They don’t compliment each other. Likewise, there are some accessories and hairstyles that don’t flatter your face shape. That’s okay. There are 9 different face shapes and all of them are perfect.
Before you put icing on that cake, you should determine what flavor the cake is. Fill in your email and name to take the quiz. You might just be surprised. I know I was. I actually have a face shape that I had never heard of before I did my research for this page.

Oblong
Because oblong faces are long, you want to emphasize the width of the face. Wear accessories that increase the visual width of the face like large rectangle or large square sunglasses. Likewise, for earrings, go for width as well. Large button earrings or chunky hoops will provide the right balance. Similarly, wear a hairstyle with added volume on the sides and avoid volume at the top of the head. Bangs are also a fabulous option.
Round
If you have a round face, wear earrings that draw the eye vertically. For instance, long, narrow, dangly would be very flattering. For eyewear, choose short rectangular frames. Hair need to have some height or volume on the top of the head and a haircut that frames the face with straight lines.
Square
The best eyewear shapes for the square face are the oval, round, wayfarer frames and other frames that have an emphasis at the browline. Similarly to the round face, the squared face will also be flattered by a hairstyle with volume at the crown. For earrings, choose an earring that is wider at the post, like a button earring. If you want to wear dangles, choose ones that are wider at the post and have long slender shapes and lines hanging below the ear. This will both create width at the cheekbones and lengthen the face at the same time.
Rectangle
For the rectangle face, the most flattering styles add visual width at the cheek or cheekbone level of the face. This can be accomplished with a hairstyle that has volume at the sides, or large, wide earrings. In a like manner, this face can pull off eyewear that is wide. Opt for frames with curved lines to complement the angles of the face.
Heart
Those with a heart face can really rock the teardrop shaped earrings because they add more visual width at the chin. Eyewear should soften the face shape. Going with an oval frame will do the trick. This shape also wears semi-clear and transparent frames well as well as wayfarer styles. By the same token, those with a heart shaped face should wear hairstyles that bring attention to the chin, like face framing layers.
Teardrop
Hairstyles for the teardrop face can have more volume and interest at the top. The hair length should avoid the jaw and chin area being either shorter or longer. Eyewear with a strong browline are a win for this face shape– go for the cat-eye, horn-rimmed or wayfarer. For earrings, look for something dangly in an inverted triangle shape that is wider near the post of the earring and narrower at the bottom.
Heptagon
Heptagon shaped faces wear triangular shaped earring the best. Look for styles that draw the eye to the jaw or chin level. In the same way, pick a hairstyle that draws attention to the jaw like a sleek bob. In eyewear, look for angular shapes with rounded edges to bring balance to your facial features. Spectacles with an emphasis at the brow-line like wayfarer, cat-eye and horn-rimmed styles are also good options.
Diamond
Look for eyewear styles that have a strong line at the brow like cat-eye frames, wayfarer or horn-rimmed glasses. You can also go with styles that have shapes that are opposite of your features. If your face has angular lines go with ovals. Earring styles should have more visual weight toward the chin area like teardrop shapes, triangles or diamonds. You can sport a variety of hairstyles, but face framing layers that tickle the chin are especially flattering.
Oval
Ovals can wear a variety of shapes of earrings, but should avoid anything overly chunky that may tip the balance of the facial features. Eyewear styles for the oval face are the aviator, wayfarer, cat-eye, and rectangle.
