What is an Iconic Style?
An iconic style may be something that is hard to explain with words, but easier to see in images. We see it frequently in the music industry or on the red carpet (think Madonna’s cone bra). Musicians and celebrities use fashion to craft a story or narrative about themselves. They always show up in a certain style of clothing, so we begin to associate that style with the person themself. Even so much so, that sometimes, a celebrity may go out in street clothes or without makeup and not even be recognizable to the public.
Nonetheless, iconic style isn’t something that is only attainable if you are a celebrity or pay a lot of money for a personal stylist. You can create a personalized iconic style that is uniquely you. Some people may also call this a signature style or a signature look. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to create one, but it will take you thinking like a stylist.

What are the Benefits of Iconic Style?
Versatility
Having an iconic style means the items of your wardrobe mix and match effortlessly, especially if you’ve tailored your wardrobe around a cohesive color palette. This means you can create more outfits with fewer clothes. Variety, versatility and simplicity all wrapped up into one.
Memorable
Having a specific look makes you more memorable. I guess for some people, this may be a con instead of a pro. Being memorable can have many professional benefits in the workplace or even with making friends with your kids’ friends’ parents. It also may help by making you a memorable friendly face to a visitor at church.
Create a Brand of Yourself
Do you want others to know what you’re about right off the bat? Brand yourself. Your image, if used effectively, can be used to portray your standards and your values. If health and fitness are important to you, incorporate sporty design details into your look. Alternatively, if valuing a luxurious lifestyle is important, find ways to amp up even your casual outfits to have a luxurious vibe.
Look/Feel more confident
When you know that all the elements you’re wearing work together, you will not only look more confident, but you’ll feel more confident too. AND I might not hit this point home enough, but confidence is the key to everything.
Shopping is easier
When you hone in on your style, shopping becomes easier. You have a better idea of what you want and what fits in with your image. You can also narrow down the places that you shop. Each brand usually only caters to a smaller sub-section of certain styles. For example, it’s unlikely that the same brand would cater to both the Rocker and the Romanic. One style embraces very hard edgy lines and the other very soft, flowing-natural lines.
You always look put together and intentional
Although you will look effortless, you’ll never look sloppy or disjointed even if you just threw something on. Remember “Versatility” from above? You’re wardrobe will be more interchangeable– any top paired with any bottom and finalized with any shoe. Add any accessory that jives with your style and you’re ready to head out the door.
That leads me to the final benefit of creating an iconic style.

Once you’ve done the hard work on the front end of creating your signature look, getting dressed every morning will be a breeze. Just pick something, put it on and go. No longer will you need to try on half your closet to decide what looks good together because it is so versatile.
